New American Gladiators!
Sunday, January 06, 2008
I think I might've caught the tail end of the premiere of the New American Gladiators, and I must say... I love it! This show is so hilarious. Of course you'll never beat the O.G. (is OG an outdated term?) AG with Larry Csonka as the host, and gladiators such as Nitro, Zap, Laser, and Gemini. But this new one is just as entertaining, and pretty much the same deal (minus the total Fabio meets Conan the Barbarian look).

Again I only caught the tail end of the program, but I saw the females compete in the last 2 events. First was the pyramid: contestants climb to reach the top of the padded pyramid while the gladiators try to stop them from above.

Ouch. That's gotta hurt. And geez, talk about impossible. How are you supposed to dupe the gladiator when you're attacking from below? Did we not learn anything from Star Wars episode III: Revenge of the Sith, when Obi Wan kicked Anakin's ass because he had "the high ground"?

And then there was the final challenge: The Eliminator.

This is the ultimate timed obstacle course with fire and water. Contenders ascend and dive off of a 10-foot platform, swim beneath a flaming surface and climb a cargo net to pedal cranks high above ground. The contenders then pedal to a beam they must traverse across, then leap off and sprint up the Pyramid to a giant zip line that drops them at the reverse escalator. At the top of the reverse escalator they race again to crash through the finish line.

Again, I only saw the female contestants do this. But man oh man, this eliminator is freakin awesome! Did you read the first line? Fire and Water. Swim beneath a flaming surface? Oh snap... that right there could be a potential lawsuit waiting to happen. Shoot I need to go up for air, oh crap, my head's on fire! Crazzzzzy! I love it. One of the girls was a really buff African American, Koya, and the other was a fit, but comparatively tiny asian woman, Venus. As soon as they got out of the water, I could tell Venus was struggling. She looked like she was going to pass out. Koya had a big lead, but when she got to the reverse treadmill, she just could not make it to the top. This is what I love about the show... the suspense, the thrill of seeing the underdog catch up. Venus surprisingly caught up and won the eliminator, leaving Koya sadly dangling from the rope on the reverse treadmill. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen, and I swear I hurt my side laughing so hard. When Koya finally made it to the top and busted through the barricade, she looked like she just collapsed and fell face first down the mat. Classic.

Keep your eye out for this show, it's freakin awesome!

ha ha ha. too funny but true. I used to watch the orignal gladiators. I forgot the new one was on. I'll have to check that out.

We loved it! We thought the women trying to finish the Eliminator were hilarious!!! They just looked so beat down. This will definitely be on our DVR this season.

Oh, yeah. The Fiance was watching this, and I started to make mock... then he invited me to sit down and watch part of it. What can I say? I was hooked.
