My new favorite toy - the Wii
Monday, November 27, 2006

This weekend Benny got a Nintendo Wii. When I first heard about this new system at the E3 unveiling, I knew I had to try it. What I love about this console is that the game play is very physical. Instead of sitting still with a controller while your thumbs and fingers do all the work, you can move around and use your whole body. Being an animated person, I tend to jump around playing games, even before the Wii came out. I guess that's why I love the Mario Party games for Gamecube. The Wii comes with the sports game, my favorite being the bowling game. Now I can finally get the bowling scores I'm not capable of getting in real life!

The only other game I've tried is Zelda. Being a long time Zelda fan, I have to say this is one of the better Zelda games out there... better than the disappoint I found in Wind Waker. The best part about using the Wii to play Zelda is the use of the grappling hook and bow/arrow. Ah, if only I had the time to actually finish the game.

There are only two things I dislike about the Wii. The first is the loop to secure around your wrist to prevent the Wii from slipping out of your hands. This thing looks flimsy, and you know what? It is! Benny already has one band that snapped off. The second annoying thing is the use of batteries. It's not that bad, just two AAs for each controller, but I guess I'm just not used to having to use batteries for console controllers. As it is, I already have to replace my wireless keyboard and mouse batteries every so often. I remember last Christmas, I told my girlfriends I wanted lots of AA batteries and they all snickered. Hah, I told y'all I'm always in need of batteries!

Anyway I highly recommend the Wii for those people who love to play games with their friends, at gatherings and parties. Just don't forget the batteries.

Spider Shadow aka Leather Pants Man
Sunday, November 19, 2006

Last weekend in Vegas, I was fortunate to get some tickets to Zumanity, a Cirque Du Soleil show for adults. The content is the usual acrobatics but with strong sexual themes. The female performers were pretty much topless and the males showcased their muscular bodies. I guess you could say the "old" me would be more fascinated by the stunts and artistic beauty of the performers. However, lately, the "new" me can't help but gawk at some of the men, even when they merely standing on stage, doing nothing. One particular man caught my attention throughout the whole show, and I have to mention him here because the man is just simply gorgeous. I'm talking about Leather Pants Man.

Let me just start by saying when I got back from Vegas, I was dying to know who this guy was. After a little googling on the net, here's what I found: His name is Hugo Desmarias. This means he's not American and I'm already imagining him with a sexy foreign accent. Hugo plays Spider Shadow in the show, and is from the French regions of Canada. "He is a svelte and stealthy Cerceaux artist who swings from his hoop, performing daring feats of aerial acrobatics. In this act, Hugo showcases his aerial hoops, trapeze, dance and acrobatic expertise... not to mention one incredible body!"

Yes, I can't agree more, he's got one incredible body. We weren't allowed to take pictures in the theatre, so I only have pictures of him in my memory. He was bare-chested, and wore nothing else but black leather pants with red spider-like designs on the legs (probably where his character name Spider Shadow comes from). He has black hair, not too long but not cropped short either. And the way he moved on stage, good Lord. His stride was graceful yet powerful. Whenever he climbed the cage or lifted a girl you could see his muscles flexing. Oh what a beautiful sight.

The weird thing about leather pants man, was that he was... well, in leather pants! I never would've thought I'd be attracted to someone in leather. But I guess he reminds me of the heroes in several of my romance novels. One character came to mind immediately when I first saw Hugo: Cian MacKelter. Yes, I think Hugo is the perfect Cian, and will from this day forward always picture Hugo when I do my rereads of Spell of the Highlander. Ah, there's nothing like a real life hottie to replace the blank face + hot body combo that I conjure up in my head when I read.

I have to blog about FH's reaction
Tuesday, November 07, 2006
So the big news today... Faith Hill's reaction to Carrie Underwood winning female vocalist of the year. You've all probably seen the clip on YouTube, but if you didn't, FH pretty much looks pissed off that she didn't win and shouts WHAT! into the camera before storming off. I watched all of the CMAs last night but I didn't catch this until I saw it on YouTube.

I read a bunch of articles on this, and FH claims that she was just joking and she would never treat fellow country singers with disrespect. A lot of fans also believe she was joking because they feel she wouldn't be dumb enough to react that way in front of the cameras.

I for one think she was NOT joking. Her reaction looked very natural and she probably expected to win, therefore her shock/anger was just instinctive. Even if she really was joking... what the heck kind of "joke" is that? I find it hard to believe she would "joke" about it by thinking "hmm I know what would be hilarious... if I were to pretend I was pissed off if I didn't win" Ummm yah. Nice try.

I like FH songs, but I wonder how Faith would've reacted if it were the other nominees who won. I think she's upset that Carrie is so new to the country scene, and that she didn't even get there through normal country music conventions. Whatever, I like Carrie and good for her that she won.

In the end, I don't really care whether she was joking or not. I just seriously love watching that clip over and over again. It's hilarious. Do I believe she was really pissed and acting like a soreloser? Yes. Do I hate FH now? No.

Is it just me or does TV suck now?
Monday, November 06, 2006
What's up with all these lame shows nowadays? Alright, I admit, I don't watch too much tv, and I don't have TiVo or an equivalent. So I'm sure there ARE some great shows out there, but so far the shows that I've caught this season are disappointing.

Specifically I'm talking about Heroes. New show on NBC, looked very interesting at first. Now that it's been a couple of episodes into the season, I'm finding myself more bored each week. First of all, the show to me is like a wannabe Lost. Let's take strangers from all over the world, stick them in life or death situations, and watch them work together to save their lives. Okay, sure it's still pretty different from Lost in that the characters aren't all stuck on one island, and the characters themselves have supernatural characteristics. The reason it doesn't work for me is that there are too many characters, and each episode tries to cram in every character. With Lost, each episode focuses primarily on the background story of one character. I just finished an episode where Mikah (Niki's little boy) showed some power. Ugh, can we NOT?

Second, the tag line "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World." Okay, I think that is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Why would we need to save the cheerleader when it's so hard to kill her? Why not save the flying brothers or the painter guy? Sure they have "powers" but if you shot them, they'd be so dead. The cheerleader doesn't need help!

Third, Hiro's ability to stop time, teleport, etc. Shouldn't that be enough to pretty much solve everything? Shoot, if I had his powers, I'd be doing a lot more than just stopping time to gamble. And speaking of gambling.... why oh why would you manipulate the cards by switching out the opponent's cards? That's how you get caught! If I were Hiro, I would've just manipulated the poker deck so that the flop of cards would be in your favor. *sigh* If his character weren't so dorky and amusing, I probably wouldn't have watched past the first episode.

Okay enough about Heroes. Let's move on to a commercial I saw for this show called Day Break. So this guy lives the same day over and over again trying to prevent all these bad things from happening. Hello! Can we say GroundHog Day? Or better yet, can we say GroundHog Day with Guns? I don't see how that show can last for more than 5 episodes.

Last one... The Nine. Okay, I haven't really seen a full episode, but again... wannabe Lost.

I know I'll probably end up watching Heroes still just because I hate starting something and not finishing. But all the more this makes me not want to start new shows. Reminds me of all the hours I wasted watching soap operas that will never ever get resolved.

I'm so excited for Vegas!
Friday, November 03, 2006
i've been to vegas a million times. but this next trip is going to be awesome. i still can't believe a few months ago it started with a random suggestion, "hey let's all go to vegas!" and now, a week before we leave, i'm just starting to realize this is one of those once in a lifetime experiences.

it will be different this time, because for once i'm going to be in vegas with an entire group of people i like. i don't have many gal pals, and these women have come to mean so much to me in the last year. if any of them were in a crisis and asked me to fly and see them, i'd be there in a heartbeat.

i'm guessing there will be some kinks in the weekend. hopefully no drama but just little things, like maybe people getting lost, changes in dinner location/time, etc. but no matter what, i am determined to just relax and have a good time with my dearest friends. i'll probably cry when i leave. and you know what? i'm looking forward to that.
