New American Gladiators!
Sunday, January 06, 2008
I think I might've caught the tail end of the premiere of the New American Gladiators, and I must say... I love it! This show is so hilarious. Of course you'll never beat the O.G. (is OG an outdated term?) AG with Larry Csonka as the host, and gladiators such as Nitro, Zap, Laser, and Gemini. But this new one is just as entertaining, and pretty much the same deal (minus the total Fabio meets Conan the Barbarian look).

Again I only caught the tail end of the program, but I saw the females compete in the last 2 events. First was the pyramid: contestants climb to reach the top of the padded pyramid while the gladiators try to stop them from above.

Ouch. That's gotta hurt. And geez, talk about impossible. How are you supposed to dupe the gladiator when you're attacking from below? Did we not learn anything from Star Wars episode III: Revenge of the Sith, when Obi Wan kicked Anakin's ass because he had "the high ground"?

And then there was the final challenge: The Eliminator.

This is the ultimate timed obstacle course with fire and water. Contenders ascend and dive off of a 10-foot platform, swim beneath a flaming surface and climb a cargo net to pedal cranks high above ground. The contenders then pedal to a beam they must traverse across, then leap off and sprint up the Pyramid to a giant zip line that drops them at the reverse escalator. At the top of the reverse escalator they race again to crash through the finish line.

Again, I only saw the female contestants do this. But man oh man, this eliminator is freakin awesome! Did you read the first line? Fire and Water. Swim beneath a flaming surface? Oh snap... that right there could be a potential lawsuit waiting to happen. Shoot I need to go up for air, oh crap, my head's on fire! Crazzzzzy! I love it. One of the girls was a really buff African American, Koya, and the other was a fit, but comparatively tiny asian woman, Venus. As soon as they got out of the water, I could tell Venus was struggling. She looked like she was going to pass out. Koya had a big lead, but when she got to the reverse treadmill, she just could not make it to the top. This is what I love about the show... the suspense, the thrill of seeing the underdog catch up. Venus surprisingly caught up and won the eliminator, leaving Koya sadly dangling from the rope on the reverse treadmill. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen, and I swear I hurt my side laughing so hard. When Koya finally made it to the top and busted through the barricade, she looked like she just collapsed and fell face first down the mat. Classic.

Keep your eye out for this show, it's freakin awesome!

Tears of Joy
Wednesday, January 02, 2008

I already broke another new year's resolution. I told myself I would stop being a crybaby. Well I just finished crying, but for once they were tears of joy. I just checked my score for my latest CPA exam, and I passed. I don't know why, but as soon as I saw it, I broke down and started crying. Tears of joy, at least. Thank you Lord! I'm halfway there... two down, two to go. You have no idea how happy I will be when I'm all finished. I'm going to throw a big ass party, and you are going to be there to celebrate with me, okay?!

Happy New Year!
Tuesday, January 01, 2008
Happy 2008 everyone! I can't believe how the time flies. It's already January, so this pretty much means I'm going to be very behind on my blog postings from now until end of March or even April. So sorry in advance! Anyway, I usually never make formal resolutions, but I do have one for sure this year: to be a better friend.

I know I'm busy all the time, but so is everyone else; and often times I feel like my excuses for not keeping in touch are lame. I'm checking my personal emails less often, and now that I think about it, I'd probably save more time by just picking up the freakin phone. I have first cousins who live around the corner from me, about twenty houses down, who I see once every two months or so. Very sad. I have all these online/blog friends who live across the U.S., some even in Canada, Australia, etc. The closest one to me is Rowena, who lives about 20 minutes away, and gosh, I barely see her (sorry I'm such a bum Wena!).

So that's my wish for 2008. For all of my friends (you know who you are), I just want you to know that even though I don't say it often, I really am thankful to have you as a friend. Even though I don't call, or respond to emails right away, please know that I am still here for you. Time is precious, so let's not waste it.

Alright enough mushy stuff. Speaking of friends, you ever have that one friend who you suspect is only your friend when her other "real friends" aren't around to hang out with her? I've got this friend who I love to death, but with her, it's always a toss up. You never know what mood she might be in, and believe me, you don't wanna be around her when she's crabby. When it's just us (this girl, me, and Natalie), we have a great time, and laugh till we cry. But she's also got this other friend.... and the only way I can describe this other girl... is that she is the "sex and the city" friend. The let's go scope out the hotties in clubs/bars/etc. friend.

Here's the thing: I don't blame my friend for wanting to hang out with this girl in that context, since I don't do any of that clubbing type stuff anymore. But I feel like my friend is just living vicariously through this other girl. Whereas sex and the city (SATC) girl would probably end up having a one night stand, I really believe my friend wouldn't go through with it. But she wants to live that "exciting" type of life and be like her friend. Hey, what she does on her own time with SATC girl is none of my business. But I don't like it when she becomes this totally different person when, on that rare occasion, we all happen to be hanging out together (SATC girl included). It's like I might as well not even be there, she completely ignores me and Natalie. Whatever. I've sorta just come to terms with it, and I don't let it bother me. I think it hurts Natalie a bit more, and that's what makes me sad. Natalie is probably one of the most selfless people I know. Always thinking of others before herself. Nat, if you're reading this, don't let her get to ya okay?
