Can I get some support here?

So for those of you who don't know, Benny and I are going through a really rough time in our relationship right now. We're basically "on a break," which I know sounds totally lame, but I can't think of a better way to say what's happening. He basically dropped this huge bomb on me two weeks ago, when he told me that he was unhappy with our relationship. He feels like we have nothing in common anymore and that our lives have become very routine. Now mind you, I've been with the guy for almost 5 years now, and he's my first boyfriend. We met in college and have been dating since. If you had asked me three weeks ago how my relationship was, I would have said "wonderful, couldn't be better, it's only a matter of time now before we finally tie the knot." So you can imagine my surprise and punch-to-the-gut feeling when Benny told me all this.

I'm not going to go into all the details of our dilemma. Believe me, I've already cried my eyes out and sought the advice/comfort from my closest friends (thanks you guys!). I'd like to think I'm a reasonable person, so I've been listening to Benny, trying to understand what he's feeling. I think he's very confused right now and so I decided we both need a breather. Hence, the "on a break" status.

Now what pisses me off, is that other than my closest friends, I've been pretty much keeping this to myself. I try to keep myself busy at work (which is actually easy since I'm swamped right now) and I try to put on a smile. I haven't told my family yet, since they think we're "so solid" (to quote my mother) and I'm still hoping we can work things out. After much debating though, I knew I had to share this with my brother. After all, we're pretty close and I was there for him when he and his ex split after being together for 5-6 years. The only reason I was hesitant to tell him, was that he's in a brand spankin new relationship. Don't get me wrong, I like his new gf, but seeing the two of them all lovey dovey sometimes makes me wanna gag.

Last week he and his gf were at my house having dinner, and they invited me to join them. I decided to roll out of my bed, which was basically a heaping mess of hidden tissues, romance books, remote control and stuffed animals. At dinner my brother asked the usual, "where's Benny?" and I shrugged saying he was spending time with friends. Then after deciding to finally confide in him I added, "actually... we're sort of on a break."

See, this is the part where my brother is supposed to comfort me. To back me up and say "oh no, what happened? do you want to talk about it?" But no. What does he say? "oh really?? hmm.... *pause* well, no offense, but I kinda saw it coming, what with him going out all the time lately." Then he proceeds to talk to his gf as if that was all he needed to say on the subject.

Well now, ain't that peachy keen?

By now, I'm fuming mad. Are you kidding me? Are you seriously flippin kidding me? Excuse me, who was your shoulder to cry on when you and your ex split? Who listened to you in the wee hours of the morning trying to comfort you? Throw me a bone will ya? All I wanted was to talk to you and you basically just throw it back in my face.

You know, I can make a big list of ways I, as his little sister support him. But that's for another blog. For now I will just say that I'm hurt. For my own brother to just dismiss the subject like that when he knows how much I love Benny is just hurtful and selfish. I know he's in a new relationship, so his thoughts are 24/7 focused on his gf. But all I ask is that he step aside for two seconds and be my big brother.

Dear audit client.......
Wednesday, February 07, 2007

Here are some suggestions on how we can improve our auditor-client relationship:

1) Don't assume that just because I'm asking you a question, that something is wrong or that I'm accusing you of incorrectly accounting for something. Just relax and help me understand the process. Getting angry at me for asking questions only leads me to believe that you are hiding something.

2) Audits are usually done once a year. Therefore, I'm not going to remember every single thing that happened in the PY (prior year). You may do the same things every month, but I don't. Please try to understand that unless I've been your auditor for the last several years, I cannot possibly remember everything about your business.

3) If something hasn't changed from the PY to the CY, that does not mean I cannot look into it more in the current year. Does it occur to you that we don't catch EVERY single thing in our audits? I know it can be frustrating to explain something every year when the accounting methodology hasn't changed, but we do get new staff on our jobs. That's part of the industry, so please keep that in mind.

4) If you're a public company, try to understand this: you need us and we need you. Please stop with the "when are you auditors gonna leave already?" jokes. Haha, I get it, okay, you hate us. Let's laugh once about it, but not every single day. Suck it up. Again, you need us, and we need you.

5) Do not assume you are my one and only client year-round. I juggle several jobs at a time, so please try to understand that I cannot always respond in 15 minutes.

6) Do not lie to me. If you promise to deliver a schedule that you know you cannot get to us in time, just flippin say so. I'd rather you be upfront and honest about it than make promises you cannot keep, which result in me working extra on the weekends.

7) If you used to work for my firm and left public accounting several years ago, please do not tell me how to do my job and that you know how to audit better than I do. You have no idea how much has changed since you left. What may have been acceptable practice back then may or may not apply now.

8) Please please do not tell me what's immaterial from our standpoint. You do not have that information so who are you to tell me I shouldn't be looking at something that's $100,000? That might be immaterial for you, but not for me.

9) Please do not set the alarm while I am still working in your building late at night.

10) Follow the golden rule. Enough said.

Beauty and the Geek Episodes 4 & 5
Saturday, February 03, 2007

Episode 4: Girls' challenge was to study electronics. They used metal detectors to find a chest containing a walkie talkie. After contacting their partner to get the combination of a lock, they then had to cross the lake in a kayak to the finish line. I really thought Megan would win since she found the walkie talkie first, but apparently she didn't know how to use it. I was very bummed that Nadia didn't win, and Cecille won. Guys' challenge was to create a workout routine on the beach. I really wanted Mario to win but I wasn't bummed that Scooter won, he actually did a great job too.

I wasn't surprised that Cecille sent Jennylee and Neils to the elimination room. If it weren't for Nate, I would want Cecille out of there. After she got drunk and said those mean things about Neils, I am glad the other girls saw that side of her. In the end, Drew and Erin got sent home, which was fine by me, since they never won any challenges.

Episode 5: Girls' challenge was to build a dog house, which I thought was rather difficult. I'm really glad Megan won that, because she hasn't won any challenges before. The guys had to use the dogs and walk around Santa Monica to get as many phone numbers as they could. I really hate that type of challenge, because it just seems like the girls always get frustrated with the guys. I don't see how that challenge even helps the guys learn anything. I wish the show would stop doing that challenge every season, it's really getting old. Anyway, I'm really bummed Mario and Nadia left, because I don't like Neils and Jennylee as a team. He never listens to Jennylee, and it seems like she's still pissed off at him for sending Nate to the elimination room in episode 3.

The big event of the episode was Nate and Jennylee's romance. It's kinda funny how this is the second season that a romance blossomed between a geek and a beauty. I knew this would happen the minute I saw Nate, because I just knew that after his transformation, he would be the best looking. Plus he's got the best personality, IMO. It was very cute to watch him act all shy around JL and I'm glad he had the guts to kiss her.

Only 3 couples left, and I'm routing for Megan and Scooter. Why? Because as much as I like Nate, I can't stand Cecille, and watching JL and Neils just frustrates me.
