| Last Halloween Story and the Crushes are Back! |
| Thursday, November 01, 2007 |
So last night was the third and final Halloween party I went to this year. I got the invite from a boss at work and even though there was no alcohol (my boss is a LDS), I knew a bunch of coworkers would be there, so I figured sure, why not?
I wore my peacock costume again. Might as well use it up since I might be too fat to fit in it next year. The party was a bit dull at first, since I got there so early and the only people there were married couples and their babies. But since my coworkers were there I was still enjoying myself. The place was well decorated, there were lights, a fog machine, a DJ, and lots of goodies to eat.
I think after about an hour the party shifted gears and the older married couples were replaced with younger people. The dance floor started filling up and you know I got my groove on, especially to Thriller. At one point I asked my coworker Will, and his wife Mormishmom, "So can you find out who the single guys are?" Of course I was being half serious when I said that, but shortly after I said that, a group of maybe two girls and like four guys walked in. Lemme tell ya, some of those guys were cute. Will of course, notices right away and points out the group of guys coming in. One particular guy caught my eye because he was wearing a bright orange astronaut costume. OMG, guess who Mr. Astronaut was? None other than Rob.
For those of you new to reading my blog, Rob is basically this LDS guy I had a crush on this summer. I got over it since 1) the last time he invited me to a function, he ditched me the entire night 2) He would always invite me to Church activities, and never anything outside of it 3) It just can never be since he's an LDS and I'm Catholic
So anyway, we both saw each other and were shocked. It just never occurred to me that he would be there, even though my boss is a LDS. I greeted him and of course started rambling like I always do. Then I quickly turned to Will and my other coworker John and said "Quick, keep talking to me so I don't look like a loser in front of Rob. I need to pretend I'm popular." Yes, I actually said those words.
As I'm talking to Will, John turns to me and says "Dude, Daphne. That guy keeps looking over his shoulder and glancing at you." Will nodded in agreement and added "Yah, he's checkin you out."
Ohhhhh HECK YAH! I am not gonna lie, people. I was lovin it. LOVE. ING. IT. After that last event where Rob blew me off, I was totally relishing this ego boost moment. So from then on I was having a blast... dancing the night away and talking to random people. Finally I went over to Rob and he said it was a "pleasant surprise to see me," shortly followed by "So, what are you doing next weekend or the weekend after that?" I told him I was busy. He wasted no time with his next follow up question... "Or do you want to come see me give a talk at my church in three weeks?" Ummm, no thanks. Ugh, he just doesn't get it.
So yah, the party was a blast and I would've stayed longer but eventually the cops came to shut the party down since neighbors were complaining. I said goodbye to my boss and a quick "Good seeing ya, take care" to Rob. Hah! Let that stir around in his brain for a bit. Daphne the tempting yet forbidden fruit. I love it.
And speaking of tempting yet forbidden, guess who I also just saw tonight at mass? That's right. Church crush Charlie! Oh thank you Jesus. It's been over 3 months since I last saw him at mass. And to think I almost forgot it was All Saints Day (holy day of obligation). Thank you mother for calling me at work and reminding me to go. And I'm so glad that I had a few minutes to swing by home and freshen up. I wasn't lookin too hot today after last night's Halloween escapades, so I changed my outfit, fixed my hair, and reapplied makeup. When I got to the church, it was packed but I spotted my mom and dad and a space next to mom. Well I didn't realize until later in mass that Charlie, his mom, and his younger brother were sitting behind me. Oh boy, thank goodness my skin tone is darker, otherwise you woulda seen me blushing brighter than a tomato.
Even months later, he still looks good. Holy dang, you better believe I was praying hard at mass, mostly saying "Thank you Lord!" over and over in my head. Ahhh, I'm such a freak.Labels: Church crush, Halloween, Mormishmom, Rob |

| Studying Distractions and the end of my Chronicles of a Crush |
| Saturday, July 14, 2007 |
My next CPA exam is in two weeks. That's not much time people. I took an entire week off work to get more time to study because I refuse to walk into this exam knowing I didn't try my best. Knowing my own weakness, I've tried to stay away from home, in order to discipline myself and resist the temptation of taking "study breaks" (aka naps). This is how my study routine has been like during this last week: Morning - Since I'm a morning person my brain feels energized. I can tackle a ton of multiple choice questions during this time, since I'm wide awake. It also helps that everyone in the house has left for work. Afternoon - Now it's starting to get hot in my house. Even with the AC on, my laptop makes my desk really hot and the sun is blaring through my window. It's time to head to the library. I eat lunch then study at the library until about dinner time. Evening - After eating dinner and checking emails/playing on the internet, I get back into gear and study from about 9pm till 11pm.
Not a bad study schedule, I'd say. However, yesterday, nothing seemed to go according to plan. I had to pass by the office in the morning to do work related things, so that pretty much cancelled my morning studying. After lunch I headed over to the library. Upon setting up my area with my laptop, study materials, I realized that I forgot to bring my powercord. Crap, this now reduced my multiple choice question time to about 2 hours (the time my laptop battery usually dies on me). I try to slam through as many questions as I can, when all of a sudden I hear snoring. Incredibly loud snoring. I turn around and some old man is sitting in one of the big comfy chairs in the library, obviously in a deep slumber as indicated by the snoring.
I try to tune out the sound around me by putting on my headphones and playing some mellow music on my laptop. After another successful 10 minutes of answering questions I look up to see an old man searching for a book in the shelves in front of me. Okay, I really don't mean to offend, but the guy was a hunchback! Full on Quasi-Modo hunchback. I could not stop staring, and I know that sounds mean, but it's not every day I see that. Doesn't matter anyway, at this point my laptop died on me.
Later that evening I was studying again in my room when my phone rings around 10:30pm. I answer it and well whaddya know.... it's Rob my crush. I haven't really heard from him for a few weeks; the last time I saw him was at this BBQ he invited me to but ended up ditching me the entire night. I didn't blog about that night but that's pretty much the gist of it. So he's calling me from his car asking how I am, etc. After some small talk he then goes "So I wanted to let you know, that I'm giving a 15 minute presentation/talk at my church on Sunday and this might be a good time for you to come check it out and see me give my talk."
There it is people. I was wondering when I would get the church invite. In all honesty, I'm really not surprised, and I can't blame the guy for asking. For someone like him who is so involved with his church, naturally he wants to spread the message and reach out to others. Fair enough. I told him that I couldn't make it because of my swing dance class (which is totally true btw). Even if I was available, I probably would've thanked him for the invite but still said I wasn't interested. Besides, he said his topic was about the temple and asking yourself if you feel worthy to enter. Mmmkay. I don't think that would even apply to me in any way. Of course I'm not worthy to enter, I'm not a member of your church.
After that, he said his cell phone was dying and he left his car charger out of state while on vacation. I said "Okay, good luck then with your talk. Have a good weekend." That's pretty much it. You know, this may be the end of this crush, but I'm hoping it's not the end of our friendship (if you could even call it that). I really really hope that all this time, he's been thinking of me as a friend, as opposed to him being friendly in order to invite me to church. I'm moving on now, cross your fingers for me.Labels: Random Updates, Rob |

| Chronicles of a Crush: Reality Sinks In |
| Friday, June 15, 2007 |

So yesterday I was asking my coworker, Mitch, why he hasn't responded to my birthday evite. I don't think I've ever talked about Mitch. He lives in the same house where I went to open mic and first met Rob. The day we went to Disneyland, Mitch did me a huge favor by dropping off the parking pass at Rob's house, so Rob wouldn't have to pay for parking. Mitch is a totally awesome guy, he's funny and everyone in the office loves him.
So I bought him a super delicious cookie yesterday, as a thank you for doing me that favor. I said "Hey so are you coming to my party?" He said "I can't make it Saturday night, sorry I have this church thing at 8pm." Clearly he didn't read the evite carefully, otherwise he would've known it started at 4pm. I said he could totally stop by, and Rob was going to be there, so maybe they could carpool.
So now that that was settled, the rest of our conversation went like this....
Me: "So what's this church thing you're going to?"
Mitch: "Well, don't laugh okay, but I was assigned leader of this dating committee and I've put together a list (**shows me list of guys and girls columns**) to pair people up for a date on Sat. night."
Me: "Oohh, that's interesting. I wonder if Rob is on this list."
Mitch: **snatches list from my hand** "Uhhh you can't look at that, it's confidential."
Me: "Mitch. He's on the list isn't he?"
Mitch: "I'm not saying anything."
Me: "Dude, it's fine. We're just friends and I'm glad he's meeting new LDS gals."
Mitch: "Suuuuure. Friends. Uh huh."
Seriously, at this point, I really wasn't upset at all. I already knew this was going to happen, and I bet Rob's been on a bunch of dates in between "hanging out" with me.
Me: "So, how does this work, do these people just find out who their date is and then plan an activity?"
Mitch: "No, we organize the event. This Saturday we're going to a drive-in movie."
Me: "Uhhh huh. Drive-in eh?"
So well, I'm gonna be totally honest. This is the part where I did get a tad jealous/upset. *sigh* So he's gonna go to my bday party, then that same night go to a drive-in movie where it's dark, cozy, oh and did I mention dark? Yah. So this is basically reality hitting me in the face. Yes, we've all known it was going to come to this. I really want to be friends with him, which is why I'm so upset with myself.... for reacting like this, for not being able to shake off these feelings. *double sigh* Someone please tell me to get over this. Now. Labels: Rob |

| Profile, Picture, and Peer Pressure Oh My |
| Wednesday, June 13, 2007 |

So this morning I'm minding my own business, checking emails and chatting with Isabel and Dylan. Isabel asks if I had changed my facebook profile pic, from just my face to the picture of me and mah crush Rob. Why would I change it you ask? Well, about two weeks ago, Benny the ex sent me a friend request on facebook. I pretty much rolled my eyes when I saw he opened an account, because I've had one since college, and he's always refused to make an account. Well I guess Benny needs to make new friends huh?
So I accepted the friend request, skipping the "How do you know this person?" portion.....because there was no way I was going to check the "we dated" box. Yah, talk about awkward. So now he's my "facebook friend." Of course Isabel, the scheming one, suggests that I put up the picture of me and Rob. After all, it's not MY fault if Benny happens to check my profile picture and see me with a guy friend. *evil grin*
I hesitated at first, only because I have a couple of coworkers on my friend list, who happen to know Rob. I don't want them thinking I'm obsessed and then go tell Rob. "You weinie," Isabel says. Oh well, fine. Talk about peer pressure. I decide to upload the picture, and as soon as I refresh my profile, I feel guilty. I thought "if it was the other way around, I don't think I'd wanna see a picture of Benny with his arm around some girl."
I decide to browse through my picture folder and upload another picture, because dammit, I just felt too guilty. Okay, no problem, just change the picture back and no one will ever know. I'm about to select a picture of me and a cousin, when ding! I get an IM from my old college buddy Wally:
W: What's the alias of the guy in the pic?
Me: Eh? OMG are you on facebook right now?
W: Yes. hahahaha
What the heck man, I had that picture up for less than a minute, and already people notice. I start explaining to him that the guy is Rob, blah blah blah.. then ding! OMG, another ping from my girl Natalie:
N: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Cutie cutie cutie. Why didn't you put up the other picture of you and Rob and Disneyland?
Seriously people. You can't even give me 2 minutes to change my profile back and forth? So there, it's done. Picture is up. "Wait a minute," I realize. "Isabel and Dylan don't even have a facebook, so why the heck did I even do this? They wouldn't even know if I changed it." Snap, I just got owned by those two b!tches (hehe love you gals). Wow, talk about peer pressure. See how easily I give in to these girls. Labels: Benny, Random Updates, Rob |
